About Us

Our Story

The idea for this business started because of my dog Kona. Kona, a 13-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, was adopted at 5 years old, given to my wife Sally and I because her owner had no time for her. She was a sweet, loving, affectionate dog who was always healthy. Never had anything other regular veteranary appointments. In June, at the age of 12, we noticed a patch of skin that seemed dry. I thought it might be a skin infection. We gave her an oatmeal bath, but that did not clear up the spot. To the vet we went and a bioposy proved positive for Lymphona.

We Fought Hard

There is no cure for Lymphona, but we hoped to get the disease into remission. This would allow her to live her normal life. Sadly, the steroids they prescribed have made her already strong appetite voracious and required more frequent potty breaks. We have subjected her to two separate Chemotherapy treatments and one surgery, yet her Lymphona remains and it’s advancing. The treatments would have a temporary affect, but the cancer cells would adapt and neutralize the advancements. We have made countless trips to Greenville, SC to see our dog’s oncologist. Yes, our dog has an oncologist!! Our only option at this point is to give her the best life we can for whatever time we have left with her. In our attempt to save Kona, we have spent over $15000. Sally and I have no children, so our animals are the kids. I didn’t know it was going to be this much when we started treatment. Yet, I would not make a different decision. Kona is my baby girl, and I will do my best to help her live her best life in whatever time she has left with us. Her coat has thinned and has lesions all over. She has developed masses under both her eyes. And yet, she still eats with gusto, still loves playing ball, and is still so sweet. I don’t see any evidence she knows she is sick.

I Didn't Know Help Existed

I had heard of Pet Insurance, but didn’t know anyone who had it, didn’t know anyone who could help explain how it worked, or how it could help. Now I know that there are options for help. Some companies cover older animals, and some companies will help with pre existing conditons. I am not naïve, I know Insurance companies in business to make money. Yet I can’t help but wonder if help was available. This unfortunate experience has generated my new mission, to help others as they navigate this difficult situation. Hopefully I can assist the next person who has to face this hurdle.
